Pause and Reflect on How Far You’ve Come

Our default brain programming tends to focus on what we haven’t done yet, what we still want to do, and what our goals are for the rest of the year.

Society encourages this too.

We focus on how far we have to go. Not how far we have come.

What if you paused to reflect on how far you’ve come, what you’ve accomplished, and how you’ve already grown?

Pausing, being present, and enjoying your journey is one of the most effective tools for moving forward.

Reflection is a form of presence.

Pausing to reflect is usually fun and satisfying. And most of us miss out on the opportunity.

Even if it has been hard, there are almost always good mixed with the challenges:

learnings
growth
evolution
unexpected moments of delight

What have you accomplished so far?

How have you grown?

How have you changed, evolved, or become more yourself?

What you practice grows.

Pausing to reflect, enjoy, appreciate, and feel gratitude and satisfaction often propels you—effortlessly—toward future growth.

What you pay attention to is what you experience. Why not pay attention to the good?

I’ve discovered a surprising truth - the more you remember, the more wonderful things you remember.

The more you attend to what’s gone well, the more you grow feelings of pride, accomplishment, and gratitude.

This doesn’t mean you ignore or deny the challenges. The disappointments and delights can coexist. The hard and the good can both be true.

And you can choose—today—to bathe yourself in a delicious neurochemical soup of gratitude and pride…and honor who you are becoming.
