“Advocate” for Yourself Rather than “Complain”

Change one word and experience a big difference.

Advocating is empowering. Complaining is disempowering.

Advocacy is a key to physician health and wellness. Especially self-advocacy

We were taught to advocate for everyone else’s needs but our own.

Yet we know that depleted healers whose human needs are not being met, cannot heal, hold space, or advocate for others long-term.

When we don’t advocate for ourselves we end up victims, so depleted we are only capable of reacting and complaining.

Pause.

Breathe.

Slow down.

Replete yourself.

Learn how to calm your nervous system.

From here it’s possible to step out of learned helplessness, self-sacrifice, martyrdom, victimhood, and complaining.

From here, set the intention to advocate for both yourself and others

Then watch the possibilities and creative solutions open up.

If you need help making this a reality, reach out. It’s what coaching is all about.
