Respond to fear by acting “wisely”
Fear is helpful. It is an adaptive and necessary survival mechanism.
Fear is a message. When we take constructive protective action, fear usually subsides. Fear is often helpful and it can literally save your life.
Anxiety doesn’t help us act; it keeps us spinning and stuck. Anxiety is rooted in “what ifs” worst-case scenarios that may never happen, and focusing on things outside of our control. Anxiety makes it hard to access our intuition hindering us further.
What does responding to fear by acting wisely look like?
This question, offered by Martha Beck, is a great start:
“What can I do today to help create my happiest, most peaceful life?”
Some of your answers might be:
Build a village. Find people who share your values, and who will tell you the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. “Connection is an anchor in a sea of uncertainty.”
Listen to Your Intuition. Trust your gut. Ask yourself good, revealing, helpful questions. Trust the answers.
Embrace the Present. Stop trying to control things you can’t control. Instead, return to the present moment. Savor life today, stay out of the dread of what might happen, and focus on appreciating what is happening.
