There is No There There

This is a line from one of my favorite poems.

Here and There by Janet Archer.

We are trained to look for there, aspire to there, and not rest until we get there.

We are trained to think that happiness and success are in the there.

We can’t rest until we get there.

And when we get there, there is always another there.

We are also trained to believe that enjoying being in the here is complacent, lazy, and not aspirational.

So we constantly search for there and miss the happiness, joy, love, connection, and moments that are here.

Coaching teaches you to enjoy the here while intentionally and deliberately pointing yourself towards an aligned there.

You learn that your ability to enjoy the here is what will enable you to enjoy being there when you get there.

You also learn what your personal there looks like.

Not the there of others or society but your personal there.

Enjoy the here so you can enjoy there.
