“Intentions are Guardrails for Our Thoughts”
Said by one of my clients in a coaching session yesterday.
I love this analogy.
Connecting with our intentions is what keeps us out of autopilot.
They help us be deliberate.
And connect to our why.
They help us stay connected to who we want to be and how we want to show up in life.
Intentions helps us make aligned decisions. And respond not react.
Intentions help us behave in the ways we hope to. Not from willpower but from wanting to.
Intentions are a way to take advantage of our neurochemistry. Simply setting an intention releases neurochemicals that help us with motivation and learning.
The intention you choose and the focus on it also releases neurochemicals. Kindness and love release “positive” neurochemicals contributing sweetness and deliciousness to your “neurochemical soup.”
Intentions also tell our brain what to focus on. They help us "remember.
Intentions are not about achievement, goals, or accomplishments. They are about the way you want to approach life.
Intentions are different than resolutions and goals. They are softer, more friendly, and more effective.
