Is it okay to live a 10/10 life?
I have been setting an intention to live a 10/10 day for the last few days.
My nervous system is not yet comfortable with setting this intention. I have always thought that if life was too good something bad would/could/should happen.
Worthwhile things are supposed to be hard.
10/10 days are those on vacation, big important days, and days when everything goes right.
This week, I am practicing embodying the idea that life can and should feel good most of every single day. Even when it isn’t all good.
Life doesn't have to be work, a struggle, or a to-do list.
And feeling good doesn’t have to wait for vacation or celebrations.
You can aspire to 10/10 even when you aren't at your best, you are grieving, healing, challenged, and/or struggling.
What do I mean by 10/10?
It means setting an intention to fully enjoy your days.
It means you are present in the moment, noticing how you are feeling, pausing, and acting with mindful intention.
It means making simple, small choices to make each day feel and be the best that it can be for you.
It doesn't mean every day will be amazing or perfect. 10/10 days include lots of full spectrum emotions.
It doesn't mean I will be irresponsible, complacent, or lazy.
It means I will make the absolute best of where I am, and what I am facing, without hesitation or guilt.
Choosing to live a 10/10 life for me means being thoughtful and intentional about the little and big choices I make each and every day.
What I eat for breakfast, how I approach my 17-year-old and my husband. How I think about where I am in my recovery, the health problems my parents are navigating, the car brakes needing to be replaced.
Aspiring to have a 10/10 day means choosing to not let life happen to me but choosing it. With all its ups and downs.
It means choosing to not be a victim of circumstances and instead sparkle and find joy despite them.
It isn’t polyana or toxic positivity either.
It’s choosing to make the most of who you are and where you are today.
For me today it means, coaching and helping others enjoy their lives, watching the sunset, enjoying short flat beach walks, and resting enough to heal well.
It means more music, laughter, and connection with those I love. Even and especially when I am not feeling my best.
It means healthy nourishing food, mint ice tea, and Mark's Summer Nectarine Ice Cream on a hot summer day.
What if you asked yourself along the way what would make your day 10/10 today?
And what if you allowed yourself to do it?
