It Can All Start With One Deep Breath

I was asked today on a podcast how I got into yoga and why I became a yoga teacher.

Since many of you are new to my classes I wanted to share.

Hopefully, it will inspire you to try yoga, or coaching, or better yet both.

I first discovered yoga as a med student.

I became a mom as a 3rd-year medical student, and a mom again as a resident.

At that point, I stopped practicing yoga and I also stopped "being.”

I dabbled in yoga for years but came back to yoga and mindfulness a few years ago, at a difficult time in my life.

Through yoga, mindfulness, and coaching,

I restored myself, healed myself,

and then totally transformed myself.

It started with just one deep breath, in a class taught by a beautiful young woman who is now dying of cancer.

It can all start with one deep breath

If you can do that, and you want to feel better, I encourage you to show up for yoga.

Yoga can be healing and nourishing.

It's also an opportunity for personal growth.

Both my yoga students and my coaching clients say they “hear my voice in their heads.”

Yoga is not just about the class, it is about who you become in the process.

Its about what you take back with you into your life -off the mat- afterward.

Mindful coaching is like yoga for the mind- it ultimately impacts not only the mind but your body and soul.

Mindful Yoga like coaching- is good for the body, mind, and soul.

They both help me to pause and be present.

To listen to my body and my inner wisdom.

Stay grounded, centered, and in touch with my priorities.

To notice how I feel.

And to accept and allow what is.

Even when I don’t like it.

They both help me to remember and be able to breathe more deeply.

And take both deeper breaths and longer pauses in moments of challenge, strain, fear, frustration.

They help me and others to let go, and be intentional in purposefully creating space in my life for the things that matter most.

They help me find the balance between being and doing ease and effort and rooting and stretching.

And to realize that these are not in conflict with each other- they are all just part of the whole.

The goal of yoga and the goal of life is never “perfect.”

It’s not supposed to be pretty.

It is ALL a practice.

Attention and intention are a beautiful way to move forward.

And community and connection are healing and valuable.

Hope you will join me next Sunday (Valentines Day for yoga)- 10 AM PST.

If you can't join a live class, check out my youtube channel (and SUBSCRIBE) for replays.
