Not All Rainbows and Daisies

Sometimes it has been raining for 5 days straight.
You have to replace your garbage disposal, hot water heater, and toilet this month.
Your roof needs a repair.
Your son slipped on wet stairs this weekend and got hurt. He is miserable and in pain in the middle of his final exams.
You don’t yet have a Christmas tree or a single present bought for the holiday season.
You have immediate family members who still struggle with their mental health.

None of these are life threatening or a catastrophe (and they are not a shark!)

We need both the good and the bad to live a full life. Without the bad would the good feel as good?

Life is not supposed to be amazing and isn’t for anyone.

Our thoughts and expectations are what make the cold shower, the piles of charts in our in-basket, or a fight with our husband, feel better or worse. They shift the balance.

Coaching doesn’t eliminate bad circumstances, and doesn’t necessarily even eliminate the thought that something is bad. It empowers you to choose your thoughts and your own adventure amidst the chaos. I choose to still think I do not like cold showers and I wish I didn’t to have pay for a new hot water heater. Or a toilet.

We cannot control our situations but we can control our response to it. Coaching teaches you to accept reality and not resist it. We always lose when we fight reality.

When you allow the frustration and the pain, you feel better much faster. The calm and lightness are restored much faster. And the decision to get a new hot water heater is simple.
