Opt-Out of Collective Suffering

Collective suffering is “a thing” we were trained to take part in.

It is very often glorified.

In my family, humility and hard work were encouraged.

My medical training also glorified suffering. “Hard”, sacrificing, and martyrdom is what “good doctors” do.

Having fun, and enjoying life is not.

Mindfulness and coaching have helped me embrace being able to find joy and have fun when the opportunity presents itself.

More fun, joy, and lightness are what’s needed in this crazy world especially if you work in medicine.

Like play, they help you to both see and be a part of creative solutions.

They help you release trauma and heal.

They help you connect.

They help prevent and heal burnout.

They make your neurochemical soup much healthier.

Sending a loving nudge today to opt out of collective suffering when it draws you in --whether on Facebook, at the “watercooler”, or on Microsoft teams.

Gift your brain and body the experience of joy, laughter, and true pleasure whenever you can.
