Regret is Expensive and Optional

Many of us feel regret.

We wish we had done things differently. We wish we could have a do-over.

We tend to be mean to ourselves about our past decisions.

This is “expensive” — emotionally and energetically.

We can decide we did the best we could at the moment with the information, skills, and resources we had at that moment.

In retrospect, knowing the outcome we often decide we should have made a different decision. This doesn’t mean we made a mistake or that we should regret it.

Regret is optional.

We can choose to have our own back by remembering that we made the best decision we could at the moment.

What’s in our control is to decide how we want to move forward now.

Letting go of regret and being kind to ourselves is a great place to start.
