The Grandmother I Want to Be
Today is the day I am due to become a grandmother.
As a yoga teacher, mindful coach, and someone who wants to show up deliberately in this world, I set intentions as a regular practice.
Intention-setting is spiritual, energetic, and strategic.
Intentions take advantage of neurochemicals to impact results.
And they focus your intention on what matters most.
With something as important as grandma-hood, I am not messing around.
What kind of grandmother do I want to be?
What energy do I want to bring to my new role?
When approaching important relationships intentionally looking to my words for the year never fails as a strategy.
Deliberate
Assured
Satisfied
Radiant
These words are perfect as a guide for intentional grandmahood.
I want to be radiant, loving, fun, and healthy.
I also want to be deliberate - not react or be on autopilot. I want to bring presence, joy, patience, nonjudgment, belief, gratitude, and generosity. Doing this for newborns and their parents has always been my zone of genius and I also know that when love is involved, it often gets more complicated. This is where setting intentions helps.
Feeling assured - also perfect for the grandma I want to be. I want to trust my son and daughter-in-law and the universe. Assured will help me believe in them 100% - which I do - but sometimes when babies, love, and healthcare are involved we all get a little crazy. Feeling assured will help me stay out of “crazy,” and be present, loving, connected, helpful, and joyful.
Feeling satisfied will create space for fun light-hearted and content. Satisfied enjoys the journey without angst.
In her children’s book, The Birthday of the World, Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen talks about seeing with your heart. I aspire to be a grandmother who sees with her heart, who sees in color, and who notices the light hidden in everyone and everything.
