What is Enough?
A well-lived life is to know what's enough and to love it.
But what is enough?
One of the most difficult challenges in life is to know this..
How do we know what's fulfilling if we are constantly reaching for something else?
How do we put down a vision of what’s ideal in order to be who and where we are?
Exactly as we are?
What would happen if you stopped looking for the dream and instead enjoyed the beauty right before your eyes?
Who would you be if you stopped always striving and pushing for something different, something better, something more?
How do you know what's enough?
Is being present and content, being lazy?
Could it be productive? Could it be healthy?
On the surface, effort seems simple.
Try hard.
If you meet resistance or get stuck, try harder.
Never give up.
Keep pushing, keep striving.
But where does this get us?
“Often the imposition of our will turns resilience into stubbornness and then we chase our willful tail”- mark nepo
We continue to search for what’s missing in life,
we constantly focus on fixing and improving,
we keep looking for better,
and we keep striving
This keeps us from being present, being vulnerable, and being connected.
When we hold out for a taste of perfection —that never comes — we insulate ourselves and protect ourselves from being touched by life in front of us.
We are lonely.
A well-lived life is to know what's enough and to love it.
What would happen if you put down your dreams and projects for tomorrow and experienced today?
Experienced what's before you right now?
Not after Covid or when your newborn sleeps or when you get a better job that allows more of ….
But here now in the moment.
What would happen if you were fully present with what's before you right here right now, exactly how it is?
What would happen if you stopped looking for what might be missing?
What would happen if you chose to enjoy what's here, in all its imperfection?
What would happen if you get out of your own way?
Decided it is enough
for today?
In my experience, it is magic.
The work to shift this mindset is not easy.
It takes practice and commitment.
And is so worth it.
