Finding "Groundedness" in the current "Groundlessness"
Being grounded and grounding is something we speak of in yoga a lot.
You can feel grounded and practice grounding.
Most of us know how to feel UNgrounded---- scattered, unstable, frazzled, anxious, distracted, disconnected, airy, stressed.
But what about grounded?
Trees are grounded.
They are strong, stable, and present.
And they grow in both directions.
They connect to what nourishes them and reach toward what makes them feel alive.
They are an example of how we can root to rise.
.Something I learned in yoga.
This is the power and beauty of working to feel grounded in the groundlessness.
"Grounding” is an active process.
In yoga and in life, we can connect with what’s beneath us and what holds us up.
This gives us strength.
The earth provides energy and strength.
Connecting to the earth and rooting downward gives us strength and energy.
Focusing on it and connecting to it allows us stability and gives our mind time to rest.
Strong roots keep us from blowing over in the breeze or windstorms. Our leaves can shift and dance in the breeze but we don’t become “uprooted” in the wind.
If we allow circumstances, the mess, the chaos to lead us to uproot us, life is stormy, overwhelming, full of anxiety, and drama.
When you are grounded and rooted, storms pass overhead.
You still get wet. But you dry out quickly.
How do you ground yourself in the groundlessness of the world and life right now?
Take time to lie down and rest on the earth.
"Let the earth hold you completely"-- savasana if you are a yogi
By letting go, accepting, surrendering, resting, and restoring, you can show up as the best version of yourself.
You can also ACTIVELY ground yourself by connecting to the earth and to yourself.
Connecting with your breath and with your body.
By pausing
Being present in the now.
And enjoying it, mess and all.
It’s possible --no matter the swirl, chaos, and drama around you.
This takes
Consciousness, awareness, intention, and effort.
Managing your mind.
Deciding you don’t “do” drama.
Changing your story.
Intentionally embracing simplicity.
And pausing and being present.
Give it a try.
It feels great!
This was the theme of my yoga class this weekend.
You can now find recordings of my yoga classes -- including this one (as well as some of the coaching work and interviews) on my YouTube channel.
A funny thing for me to say out loud and also super cool that it exists.
